Lillys Trek Challenge

The club would like to congratulate our amazing member Lilly on her participation in the Trek Camino Challenge 2019. Lilly had spent many months fundraising for the charity, The Cancer Fund For Children and only her own words can sum up this great achievement.

" Back home late last night after an amazing trek with 16 people I had never met before, 14 of us were fundraisers, 2 guides and 1 Team Doctor. In our efforts to raise money for The Cancer Fund for Children we have supported each other every step of the way. I’m so glad I was able to take part, it has been such an unbelievable experience. More than half the time the weather was so bad that if we had been at home we wouldn’t have left the house but on the Camino we set out in the (very early) morning darkness every day in spite of frost, hailstones, continuous heavy rain and sore, weary bodies. All that was made up for by the laughs, fresh air, great coffee, occasional warm sun and meeting up with many other pilgrims heading towards Santiago. There are people from all over the world, old and young . Some have been walking for weeks, having started from different places on the Camino on their own, meeting for a while with new companions and then continuing alone again. We were all proud to take part and plan to meet up again. Every one of our wee group is thankful that we were able to complete our journey and raise funds for such a deserving Charity. Thanks to everyone who has helped me in my fundraising efforts. 🙏"
